Hi

I want to do a beginner diving course in Thailand at the end of this year, but I am not sure about where to go and what time of year is good. I can go any time between September and December. Any and all advice very welcome!

Thanks

You might also try posting this in the general asia forum, as more Thailanders look there.

"Thailanders"??

Not to mention the Thais? :D

Or the Thailophiles or the Thailovers or Thailandsers?

Being a non-Thai lover of all things Thai (am I a Thaipeoplelover?), I suggest diving in Koh Tao/Pattaya from Sept to Oct, and Phuket from Nov to Dec. Phuket works better because of the variety of dive sites and has plenty to offer to everyone.

Why Thailand? There are plenty of places with much better diving in the area - check out Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesia, for starters. The diving in Thailand is grossly over-rated (unless you are taking a liveaboard to the Similans or something like that) - I go to Koh Tao regularly for IDCs and stuff, and couldnt be bothered getting wet (although now that Davy Jones Locker is around and doing deep wrecks, that is gonna change... droool).

Otherwise, go to Koh Tao and do your course there like everyone else. As a place to visit, it is still better than Phuket (IMO).
