A buddy of mine dives single tank sidemount at SoCal beaches. He's planning to switch to a BP/W though. He says it's fine in the water but kind of a pain to lug the tank around on land this way.

I do single-tank sidemount fairly regularly off of SoCal beaches. Generally I walk in with the tank clipped, and I'll deploy/bungee/etc once past the surf. Would like to switch back to doubles but I don't relish trudging through sand with 60+ lbs on my shoulders - maybe I need some LP50s.

I'd prefer calm days, but I've yet to encounter one on the mainland.
