What are the tech divers using most often?

Backplate and wings is the most common answer. But this sport is saturated with brands. The DIR camp dive Halcyon for different reasons than the people who dive BC's.

Again I know the differences between the devices, but again, all of my knowledge is strictly on paper. What are people actually using and why?

Can you mount a BP on to a Diverite transpac II?

BCD and single tank for recreational diving
Cause it is comfy and easy and feels good underwater

BP and WING for tec diving
Because it is simple, strong, carries all the weight with ease and has plenty of lift for the heavy gear.

I use two different systems so I never have to take them apart.

The answer has to do with one's personal taste. Wings and plate have been around for a long time. When using double tanks, wings can offer much more buoyancy as they come in different sizes. A sport diver who uses a single tank can find many advantages in a back style bcd. Ease of travel under water has to do with where the weight is located. Bcds hold weight in the back as well as the sides to provide stability. These bcds are the last word in comfort. P.
