Hey Tharg,

It's really up to you and what you feel most comfortable with. I don't know of many jacket style BCDs that will allow you to dive doubles.

Back inflate BCDs reduce the amount of squeeze on your body, considering that the air is in a bladder in the back of you. If you want to dive doubles, I'd take a look at the Zeagle Tech. It might be something you're interested in. I believe it has a ripcord weight system, a rear weight system to balance you out, and a whole bunch of bells and whistles. I've been thinking about getting one myself...

i am a ow diver that lives in ky.right know i am using a buddes extra bcd. i am wonting to purchace a bcd. but i don't know what style back inflate or jacket style.ill be doing my advanced this spring.should i stick with what i know. or look towards the fucther. for eny tec diving i may or maynot do. thanks

Loads of BCD divers move over to BP/W systems; very few go back. 'nuff said? :D

There are so many to choose from,I have a scuba pro Glide plus but if i had to do it again i would have got The full stab jacket scubapro classic .
The lift is incredible.
i would also have the air2 inflator.
Again its what you are going to be doing with it.
But just about any vest can make you buoyant.
When i am floating on the surface i like alot of stability.
you have to be prepared for anything ,including getting left by the boat.
The Scubapro classic has enough lift to put you half out of the water.
That makes you easy to spot, also less water in your face.
the back inflators are really great while your under water,i have one and from time to time i dive with it.
It feels like your flying ,no restrictive feeling at all.
So its Your Choice:D

Dive Rite set up for you -

I'd recommend Dive Rite Transpac w/ Venture Wing. Get in touch if you have any addtional questions. Other good options include the Omega Zone II for Back Inflate or the Sea Soft pro BCD for Jacket Style.

Best of luck ...

Has anyone ever gone from a back inflating to a jacket style?

I actually dive both... depending upon what I'm doing.. so I routinely go back and forth between the two styles

I own:

Dive Rite Transpac w/ Venture Wing - Single Tanks Solo Diving

Omega Zone II - Back Inflate - Doubles Configurations / Deep

Seasoft Pro BCD - Jacket Style - While Teaching Students

Scubapro Accent NT - This has been my travel BCD for years

All four are excellent set-ups...

I couldn't do it, first dive on my transpac and I was in love :D
