i am a ow diver that lives in ky.right know i am using a buddes extra bcd. i am wonting to purchace a bcd. but i don't know what style back inflate or jacket style.ill be doing my advanced this spring.should i stick with what i know. or look towards the fucther. for eny tec diving i may or maynot do. thanks

Its really up to you. How often do you dive? Where do you dive? What are you looking to spend on your new BC? Do you honestly think you're going to be going towards cave or wreck diving, or do you think you'll be happy staying in open water? Even if you are, that's probably a ways down the road if you're a brand new OW diver. A few more details would help.

As for this:

or look towards the fucther

That's got to be one of the best typos I've ever seen. :D

First welcome to Scubaboard! it looks like the welcoming committee is a bit late tonight :)

Secondly, this can be a very complex subject around here so in addition to this post I would search around the forum a bit. And you will get a lot of go with a back plate and wing.

I personally recommend anything back inflate. I personally dive a Zeagle Ranger and have really enjoyed using it over the jacket styles that I used in my OW classes.

Do some some reading here:

http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/buoyancy-compensators-bc-s-weight-systems/

Having said that my 0.02 psi - OMS makes a decent steel and aluminum backplates and single tank adapters (hard to mess that up)...their wings and customer service leave a lot to be desired...if you go with a wing + backplate setup the Oxycheq wings are fantastic.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

or look towards the fucther.

I had forgot how bad it hurts to blow hot coffee out of my nose first thing in the morning!!!:rofl3:

my plans are to go all the way up to rescue . and a basic nitrox class.after that i don't know at this time were it well lead me. living in ky ther are no cave's or wreck's. so the need for doubles is not promesing. my mane concern is if you go with a back inflate. you have the option later to use doubles. with out buying a new bc. but then again if yuur rig up four doubles. and the next dive you do is singels looks like that would be head ake. i have been doing a lot of reading all over the web.and i am pushing towards a back inflate . i was just wonting others opions before purchasing as to not wast money. and is true you got better trim with the back inflat thaks tharg and by the way glad i could help your sinuses

Ok, not all back inflate BCs give you the ability to dive doubles, so just keep that in mind.

Second, yes, back inflate BCs will help a bit with trim, but I've never had a problem with my trim while in a jacket style BC. Better trim, along with buoyancy control, and everything else in diving comes with more practice, it isn't something you go out and buy.

Third, depending on the BC, switching from doubles to singles and back to doubles really isn't that much of a pain, and besides, how often are you going to be hitting the surface and trying to switch over to doubles in a matter of seconds? I don't see it happening.

Fourth, keep in mind that no matter what you buy the odds are you're going to want a new BC before you need a new BC as long as you take care of your gear.

Fifth, if you see doubles or anything more than just your average, 60 ft, look at the pretty fishies dive in your future, you might want to look at a BP/W setup. There are lots of people who make them, my preference is DSS, some like OMS, some like Halcyon, some like Oxycheq. I've honestly never heard or seen anything too bad about any of them except for price issues with one or two of them, and I tend to agree.

Sixth, its mostly about what is going to work for you. There isn't a BC (made by a reputable company) out there that is going to totally make or break you as a diver. Most of the time when I hear someone complain about a BC issue, the issue is actually operator error, not an equipment problem.

Finally, figure out what you want to do, when you want to do it, and how you plan to do it, then look at the BC that will work best for you.

I think I rambled about everything I wanted to ramble about. I'll probably think of something else later. :D

Remember that bat inflating BC's have a tendency to push you face forward into the water when you're topside, which can be frustrating.....especially when you're new. Also remember that back inflating wings typically only support singles OR doubles, and those that do both often are a huge compromise.

well what im looking at is a dive rite trans pac. with a singel tank wing. ill probley ask my instructer. if he could let my try one to se if i like. the feel of back inflate bc. thanks for the info tharg
