Hi

I've read a lot about "robustness" and being able to fix leaks in relation to the new halycon Eclipse.

Has this topic been applied to any other type of BC? I'm pretty sure you can't access the inner bladder on any jacket, yet no-one seems to mention jacket BCs. Why should there be an issue with a single tank wing, when it's not going to be entering sharp wrecks or pointy caves? (excuse my simplicity, I do neither yet!) From what I can see, it will be performing the same function as a jacket BC, so why the need to access the bladder?

Is it that the older style Halcyon wings are so prone to puncture that the sentiment has crossed over to the new wing? (which has a similar outer material to AP Valves Buddy jackets I believe) Or is it that divers are demanding a higer degree of self-sufficiency, such as patching leaks, fixing inflator hoses etc.?

I use a Pioneer 36, and in spite of my best efforts to keep it out of trouble, it's been scraped up the sides of RIBs and hardboats, stepped on, squashed between and under other people's kit etc. and there is not the faintest sign of any wear and tear. Suffice to say people have now been "educated" in how to handle kit!
Am I just lucky? Or is the issue simply one of longevity? (ie, would it stand up to this for 1 year and then collapse)

Do the Pioneer wings really puncture very easily (aside from the pinhole debate!)? Or are people just careless with their stuff?

I seem to be using a lot of brackets these days :-)

cheers

Nah... I'm using a Pioneer 27...no problems. The pinhole problem people experience is really a manufacturing defect.

There isn't really anything wrong with the current Halcyon wings. The Pioneer line is perfect for most divers, even for wreck and penetration dives...as long as your air lasts.

But some divers do abuse their wing more than most... the new Eclipse line seems to fill the gap between the Pioneer and the Explorer line.

I love my Pioneer. I like not having an STA. I wouldn't change it for the Eclipse cuz my 27 is smaller than the 30 that the Eclipse is offering (Eclipse comes in 30# and 40# varieties)

The reason jackets aren't mentioned much for punctures is that penetration dives are the domain of wings.

So wings normally get exposed to more abuse and hazardous sites than jacket BCs. :)
