Just curious if anyone knows of any BC's that are designed to rest the weight on your hips instead of your shoulders. I've worn firefighting SCBA's that were designed to place the majority of the weight on your hips instead of your shoulders to reduce fatigue. They're definately much easier to carry around on land when it rests on your hips, granted you're usually not on land very long when doing beach dives.

Just curious if anyone know of any BC's that were designed this way to make the shore dives a little easier with all of the weight.

AFAIK all bc's should be worn like that, though most divers wear them wrong.
When I look at how divers put on their bc,I shake my head most of the time.:shakehead:

Lots of things go into an answer for your question.

The 2 major parameters are the height of the diver and the length of the backplate including the location of the webbing slots.

And for some divers, there is no waist/hips upon which the B/P waist strap can reside.

One must consider too where the tank comes into play with respect to the height of the valve location when mounted.

I'm probably wearing mine incorrectly, but most of the weight seems to manifest itself on my shoulders.

Sounds like like you're in for some Advice.:rofl3:

Poseidon besea harness or platform harness are designed to act the way you describe. I got one a couple of months ago and I feel a lot of difference vs. normal jacket style BCs. The weight is all loaded to the hips with almost nothing to load your shoulders and back.
check this post http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/bu...eautiful-poseidon-besea-anyone-have-bc-3.html especially posts #23 and #25
There was another one that I can't find, may be it is in the same post anyway, this guy had some back issues and was giving good recommendation for the besea.

Neither, it should be designed to promote a neutral and horizontal position in the water and how it "feels" on the surface means nothing to it's performance in the water. It is not a back pack for hiking.

Thank you, couldn't have said it better. Don't forget that diving happens underwater, where the entire concept of weight is totally different.

Probably, but I usually don't fiddle-fart around on the boat or at the dive site for it to matter . . .

Unless you're one of those people that like to hike up hills and around dells then crawl down rocks to get to a cool dive site. Then it will mean a lot to you how the BC distributes the weight.
