I had to get a new inflator hose for my bc which has an oceanic air xs 2 on it. The fitting from the new hose obviously isnt the right size. Do the fittings on the end of the hoses just "unscrew" or is there a process to this?

You can buy an Oceanic XS2 hose, or you can buy a second-stage regulator hose and put an Oceanic XS2 fitting on the end of it. The ends of standard BC hoses do not come off. Even if you could find an adapter from the (small) standard quick-release on a standard BC hose to the (larger) quick-release for your Oceanic XS2, you do NOT want to do that. The XS2 fitting allows more airflow than does the standard BC fitting, and you do not want to restrict the air flow to a device you may be (desparately) breathing from.

It definitely sounds like the hose you were supplied was the wrong type. As Tursiops says, you will need one with the correct fitting for the XS2.
