Bauer P21....Is buying filter media to DIY exchange.... Complicated?

Tommy7, no need for a bigger filter. I have had a Junior II since1999. We have done something like 3500 fills. No need for a bigger filter. Just fill the SS filter container you have with 80 cc of carbon and 80 of dissicant (with 3 pads). This will fill about 70 to 110 tanks, depending on temperature and tank size/emptiness. No need for hopoclite, even of you use a petrol engine so long as you make sure air intake is a long way from the compressor.

Got any air tests results to back that up? Bauer and most after market Mfgs state the processing capacity of that size filter (PO) is 3200 cu ft at standard inlet conditions.

If you take Bauer's specifications in their manual and do some calculations based on air temperature, tank size and starting pressure, you can come up with a more detailed look-up table that gives you a unit based number that relates to the actual effect on the filter. Take this number away from the stated figure (as included in Bauer's filters). Keep doing this till you get to zero and replace filter (or filter components). Even getting to zero the molecular sieve still has a long way to go normally (you can see this).
 
I wrote 3rd stage and meant replace 4th stage valve.

So, how do you get 70 to 110 fills from a cartridge that at optimum capacity can only process 3200 cu ft? The ambient temp would have to be 53F to give you an inlet temp of 68F (Bauer's standard inlet conditions), which in warmer climates isn't going to happen. At 90F ambient, the inlet temp will be 105F, which, according to Bauer, will only yield 43% capacity. With out air testing there isn't any basis for your suggestion of the number of fills nor that the mole sieve still has "a long way to go". Hopefully you are using the air for personal use and not as part of a for profit operation. Your liability insurance will not cover you when you don't abide by the OEM's recommendation.
