I'm considering buying the Bare NEX-GEN DRY package from Leisure Pro. It's a great price and it'll give me everything I need to dive dry. I was out last weekend and I'm just sick of being cold when I dive. I spend too much time thinking about how cold I am and not enough time looking at stuff.

I've read quite a bit on the suit and many people seem to think it's pretty good. I'd like to hear more of the negatives about this suit. What issues should I be aware of? What makes this suit inferior to a higher end one? Anybody think I should save for longer and get a better one or will this suit do me ok?

Thanks in advance.

My only negative comment about the suit is that my wrist seals don't seal :(

I didn't trim them so they are factory stock, and I still get a little water in my suit. But not enough to really matter. By the end of my second dive I will be damp to about 3-4" up from my wrist.

I love everything else about the suit.

How do you trim seals? I don't really understand.

According to Bare their wrist seals are not designed to be trimmed. You should not trim them.

The neck seal can and should be trimmed.

This is latex seals I'm talking about of course.

There is an excellent book that explains everything in details about drysuits, including seal trimming.

In two words, you trim material off cone-shaped latex seals until they fit you properly.
Neoprene seals are to be stretched.

Bare came up with these bottleneck shaped wrist seals (look latex) that according to them are not to be trimmed and can be stretched.

My wrist seals work fine... The only gripe I have is the fitting... I don't excactly fit into the S,M, L catagories... (Too wide not enough height) so the legs are a bit long... Got the Halcyon Gaiters and it doesn't seem to be a problem. Not the best fit but you get what you pay for. Works out good for me

I have one and love it. The only problem its only been on 10 dives and on my last one the cover for the shoulder dump came off. So I don't know how durable they are, but bare is replacing the valve for free so maybe it was just one of those freak things?

what year model is yours? On 2004-2005, according to DiveTank, they put updated valves.

One problem with my research is that I can't seem to find anyone who has used the suit for more than a few dives. I'd love to hear from someone who has dived it hard. I'm worried about fitting too Ben. How loose should the suit be and how tight should the seals be? I don't really know. I guess it needs to be big enough to accommodate underwear and stuff. Does Bare take this into account on their sizing charts?
