I'm new to the wetsuit market and am looking to this forum for assistance.

My LDS carries the BARE product line, and, all things being relatively equal, I would prefer to support my local shop.

What I'm after is a 7mm suit for British Columbia salt water and Great Lakes fresh water.

I understand BARE makes a good product at a fair price.

I'm hoping this forum can provide me with some opinions for or against the Bare 7mm's. If you like or dislike, please tell me why.
If you prefer another make of wetsuit please let me know and your reasons.

Thanks in advance. Best regards; jbm

Hey Jbm:)

I don't think you can find a better fitting suit of the shelf.. they don't custom but there sizing is phenomenal. I have a 5mm Supra as well as a 7mm Supra semi dry. They fit perfect and pretty toasty although when the water drops below 58 i'm in my DUI dry suit. They also have a excellent warranty my 5mm was 6months old and the zipper broke and they fixed it no charge and were fast about it as well;)

And they are proudly made in Canada:) So you don't have to worry about bying some off shore peace of junk.

Just another note i prefer the one piece versions you may like the farmer Jacker/john combination

Good Luck

Len

Bare makes a great wetsuit! They fit me perfect off the rack.
I have 3/2 and 5/3 fullsuits. If I don't find a good deal on a used drysuit soon I'll be buying a 7 mil and the arctic vest.
Leisure Pro has the best prices, but depending on what I'm buying I agree with supporting the LDS.

FYI. I spoke with a Bare representative at the Beneath the Sea show in New Jersey this past weekend. Bare will begin doing custom sizing of their suits by middle to late summer.

I have the bare supra arctic and the hooded vest. Keeps me warm when water is in the low 40s. The fit is excellent, but everyones body shape is different. The only thing I had to do was make some air escape holes in the hood because of air trapping from my bubbles. Aboslutely love it though!

jbm,

I'll give Bare wetsuits a "thumbs up" as well. I own a 7mm Bare sport john/jacket. For some reason the sport fit me better than the supra. The supra is supposedly a step up from the sport, due mainly to the seals that are present in the sleeves and legs.

Bottom line, the suits are well made and durable. You won't go wrong.

I own a Bare 5/3 suit and it's wonderful.

However, I have tried the Supra Artic and though it was a well made suit it was still a WETsuit.

For a couple of hundred more you can own a Aeruda dry suit from Oceanic. They are very inexpensive at www.simplyscuba.com

Thick wet suits are a pain in the butt. All that pulling and tugging to get the thing on-and off. And then when you get out of the water you have to stand there-shivering in your Speedo until you dry off. A wet suit is only as good as the sizing and if you aren't off the rack material then a wet suit will flood water and you'll be darn cold.

Being new to the sport I wanted to purchase the essentials, a wetsuit being on that list. I shopped around and finally decided on the 7mm Bare Supra Arctic, because of its fit and quality. Due to the 54 degree water temp here in southern California it was recommended that I obtain a hooded vest of some sort as well. I opted for the 6mm Bare Supra Arctic Vest.

The combination of the two is extremely buoyant, but keeps me comfortable even after 3 consecutive dives. I need 28 lbs of weight in my weight-integrated BCD and I'm good to go.

I am very please with the Bare products and would recommend them to anyone.
