I was in Barbados last October and will be going again this June (I have friends on island). Like others have said, I was very pleasantly surprised by the diving. Good vis and lots of great things to see. Particularly enjoyed the SS Stav dive. There is a lot of fun stuff to do topside as well... I HIGHLY recommend the zipline tour through canopy of one of the gullies. Great time!

SoCal, my dive on the Stav wasnt a very positive one. The currents were RIPPIN" and it was chore from all aspects. Besides, I live in NC so I cant do moderately deep wreck dives all day. I prefer the nice reefs and shallow wrecks while on vacation for more bottom time.

The Pamir is probably my favorite there in Barbados.

Glad to see this thread...my husband and I are diving on Barbados in late May. If you've been there before...what are some of your favorite dive sites?

And what are some of the best things to do on land?

Does anybody have any onfor on THE DIVE SHOP???

Many thanks

Seamason have you gotten the info you wanted?
Just an update on the diving today in Barbados. We were diving on bank and inner bank reefs of the south coast with great vis, 80ft. My advanced students today were spoiled on a digital underwater photo dive with Hawksbill sea turtle, eagle rays, morays, puffers, barracudas and southern sting rays on top of our healthy reef fish corals etc. Currents were light and the above average swells we were having have moved on and the surface water was calm and friendly. Water temp still hovering between 78 and 79 with no thermoclines in our depths limits (as is the norm for the Caribbean oligotrophic waters). I dive it everyday but it does not disappoint! What info can I help you with, please just let me know.
Cheers

I have too many favorites to pick...but...if I must Top Three - reefs (so hard to choose): Pine Shallows, G-Spot, Turtle Reef. Wrecks - Carlisle Bay Marine Park, Stavronikita and Friar's Craig.
We have many sites listed on a map and described briefly on our website Barbados Blue Water Sports – Caribbean Diving, Scuba Diving in Barbados navigate to dive sites page. Any questions please send along

The S.S. Stavronikita is a fabulous dive but yes the currents can vary. This is and has been one of my favorite dives since I started diving in Barbados years ago. There is something mystic about about it, and on the days of good vis when you can see her bow to stern from the dive boat (top deck of Stav ~ 80 ft with prop at ~130 ft) she's hard not to love. BUT I am a die hard coral lover (it being my thesis) and have to suggest the reefs do win in my books. If you like wreck diving you'll ask for this dive more than once. To each our own...happy diving

Was there in Nov for Thanksgiving. There are tons of sea turtles and we went swimming with them. All the diving is on the west coast of the island, the east coast is very windy and have very strong currents. The dive shop in St. Lawrence Gap is the southern most dive shop. Remember Barbados is not in the Caribbeansea but it is in the Atlantic, water is a bit cool, not by much though.

There St. Lawrence Gap is very touristy but nice to visit.

The west coast is the gold coast, that is were the money is. So hotels on the west coast is a bit more then the southern coast.

If you are planning to do the top side thing, renting a car may be a good idea. But there are taxis available.

The west coast by Bathsheba is the the most photograph part on the west coast. It is very scenic.

Enjoy the flying fish, it the local special. Mount Guy is the local run factory, and the rum punch is quite good. But food thens to be pricey, it is an island that has to import everything.

I was there for two weeks, I totally explored the island. the baja dollar is worth 98cent and is tie to the US dollar no worry about exchange rates.

PS

Air Jamaica is the national airline of Barbados, they provide meals at no charge also.

Sorry I meant east coast is where Bathsheba is and it is the most photographic of the island. I am way to dyslexic today. But if you like to surf, the east cost has great surf. There are some nice golfing to do in Barbados to Tiger Woods wedding was there couple years ago. So there are world class golfing. Since everyone point the underwater side, i focus on top side things.
