I have heard that Socorro is sometimes called the "Mexican Galapagos". I would like to consider it as an alternative if I am unable to make it to the Galapagos and the cost is significantly less. Also, I believe there is a choice of 3 liveaboard boats.
But looking at various we pages and articles by divers, I am confused as to the best time of the year to dive in Socorro to see Hammerhead Sharks. A few reports say that November to April offer the best dive conditions and yet another article seems to suggest April to June is the best time for Hammerheads. Can someone please tell me the right answer? Thanks in anticipation.

No..more than 3 boats, 5 that I know of. Socorros season is November-May, boats don't run other times. As far as I know entire season good for hammerheads...saw huge schools of hammerheads the times I went (December, January), and certainly far more than I saw in the Galapagos at Wolf/Darwin

Thanks for that ocdiver1. I think I will plan for a liveabaord in Socorro depending on availability. The quotes that I have had back for Galapagos are even more expensive than I thought. Not only are the Socorro trips a lot cheaper, but there are usually competitive fares on flights from London to LA. From LA I imagine it won't be that expensive to connect to a flight to Los Cabos International Airport.

No problem..I know you'll enjoy the trip. And Cabo is just a quick 2 hour and @$300 return trip from Los Angeles.
