For just a bit of the "other side of things", we've been on Utila at Christmas and over new years the last two years and while we got the occaisional shower and an hour or two at a time of downpours, in general the weather was sunny and pleasant, the temperatures relatively cool and diving great (and uncrowded). Hope the weather is good for you, but have fun anyway!

March April would be my choice, the later the better.

You will see diferent critters in different months. It might be a delicate almost indetectable change or shift, but as the year rolls by, different animals hatch, mate, whatever.

As far as worrying about Roatan versus Cozumel, they really suffer the same vagaries of weather, a Norther is a Norther. When the Winter storms come from that push of Arctic air, the entire region from South Padre to Nicaragua gets whipped.

We were there in Jan this year....froze to death first 2 days then was ok (just overcast) rest of week. The couple we were with had been there in Jan of 2005 the very same week and said it rained all week. We'll pick a month like Mar or Apr next time.

Here are some rainfall and temp stats (hopefully they'll display properly). From this it looks like Nov, Dec and Jan are the less desireable months. April appears to be ideal.

Rainfall Averages (inches) for Seven Years
January 12.0
May 2.1
September 5.0
February 3.5
June 2.2
October 15.0
March 2.7
July 6.4
November 19.9*
April 1.0
August 5.2
December 14.3
* Note: Every 4-5 years, November can experience much more rain than this, which is an average.

Monthly Mean Temperatures (degrees F)
January 75
May 83
September 81
February 75
June 82
October 79
March 78
July 82
November 77
April 80
August 82
December 76
The high and low temperatures are typically just a few degrees from the mean and records show average night time temperatures between 73 and 81 and average daytime high temperatures range between 80 and 88.... pretty comfortable!

Roatan Man has got the weather forecasting pretty spot on there. Novemeber, December January are the months the wind comes from the north and south side diving becomes the only option. On such a small island it isn't a problem where you stay the south side is highly accesable to well organised dive operations who just move their boats over. The rest of the year we get good steady trade winds so the south side is rough and north side diving a much more comfortable option.
