Unbelievable.

Yeah - buying shoes without trying them on and expecting them to fit! Can you imagine?

:-)

I need a recommendation for a solid online site where I can purchase scuba gear. I just got some booties from Scuba.com, they told me the wrong size to get & now they want me to pay for shipping both ways even though they gave me bad advice! Unbelievable. Thanks!
Man, you are going to get banged around on this one.... Don't take it personally.

The web site you purchased from is fine. It sounds like they attempted to assist you in any way possible. It would not be common for an Internet site to "size" you. Same for a phone sale....

For you to order from them, you would have to agree that you read their terms of sale and agreed to them. Surprise! It is common for any mail order business to charge shipping both ways for items that are ordered incorrectly.

Chock this one up to a life learning experience. It's not up to someone who can't see you and fit you to get your size correct

Thanks for all the feedback. Just went to my local dive shop and got some great booties! Will send them back to Scuba.com. I still don't think they should have advised me to get a particular size - the sales guy was pretty adament they would fit. Next time I will give my business to the local store!

Larry at Scubatoys. I was told that they even sent two sizes you can choose.

In addition, LP doesn't charge anything for the size exchange, too.....

It is a competitive business world, guys....

I've had to return booties and a wetsuit to scuba.com because they didn't fit. And you know what? They make returns VERY easy. No RMA needed, just send it back and they refund the charges, no questions asked. I knew full well that I might have to return them and would have to pay return shipping. It's still a fair deal. More than fair.

Sorry to hear that, I usually shop at Scuba.com for small stuff like fin straps, mask straps or anything under $100 dollars. The only bad experiences I had with them is the FEDEX people dropped my package with the fin strap in front of the door where some jerk stole my package and my parent's too. I wonder what the thief is going to do with that fin strap. The only thing I worry now is ordering the Neutrally Buoyant Aluminum 80 Tank by Luxfer

If you're really, really cheap, try the specific model at the Local Diveshop (and bring your fins as Mike_S suggests, to be sure they fit your booties). And if the savings are really significant to justify doing so, then purchase it online.
Do NOT do that. If you are going to use the shops employees, time, and inventory then buy it at the shop.

I agree (not sure how I missed that comment earlier). The shop isn't there for that reason.

However, you can give the shop an opportunity to match, or at least come close to, the online price. It never hurts to ask. The worse that can happen is they say no. So then you buy it online.

Uh, isn't that what you just said NOT to do?

If you're gonna make the "where to buy decision" based solely on price then you need to tell the shop owner that as the first thing out of your mouth, and let them decide if that's how they want to earn your business. If you wait until AFTER they've spent their time showing you stuff and having you try stuff on, you're really not being fair.

Not saying that you shouldn't ask, but you should let them know up front that price is a driving factor so they can decide how to best serve you.
