Yep, the "life jacket"referal should have been a dead ringer to the instructor. That being said, @$$holes are everywhere. No escaping them, only avoiding them. Safe diving and good luck on your certs.

:boxing: You tell the tale so well. With any luck these two will knock each other out of the gene pool and noone will have to deal with them again. It is amazing that people like that manage to reach majority. Just keep reminding yourself that here are still more good folks inthe world than there are of that ilk.

Part of me wants those two goons to show up next week just for the entertainment factor.

I hear what you guys are saying about the instructor but in his defense, the class was entry level beginner stuff where we were doing nothing too taxing. Also being an instructor doesn't mean you know everything. Afterall its supposed to be a continuing learning process and I'm very sure he learned a whole lot that night. ;)

I just hope the instructor doesn't get spooked by it and fails to show up for the next session. If this is the case I'll be looking for somewhere else to train.

I'll be sure to keep you posted.

Sounds like a set up to me. But I have to say, even though the instructor might not know everything, sounds like he should have not to let those two in the pool without some proof!

That is funny as heck. The bad part about it is that these people could have or might breed!

I am believer of Darwin's Evolution and Natural Selection Theory.
Mother Nature will surely know how to deal with two A**holes like them.

Perhaps the whole story was a "show" and these guys were looking for "a stairs to slip in" so they can file a lawsuit, and not innocently to "refresh their skills"?

Two thoughts come to mind (mine at least)

1. They sure deserve each other
2. They are training for a Darwin award.

And yes most divers are very nice. I think you tend to get to know each other pretty well in a short time when you are litteraly placing your life in somebody elses hands.

And I applaud the instructor, 'cause he was probably making them take the "full" course, and not a refresher course. Without him posting it would be hard to determine what his thoughts were. They were already probably P-Oed that they had to mingle with the newbies. They were trying to impress everyone, and the instructor did not buy into their little tale. You surely don't need a c-card to take an OW class.

Personally, I have met many of these same type of people. They are more interested in everyone thinking they are the best than in becoming the best. Humility is hard to acquire. As a society we favor the bold and self reliant, and not the meek. Humility in any endeavor requires one to have an accurate assessment of how much they know or don't know. It doesn't mean you can't have an opinion. It doesn't mean you have to be Casper Milk Toast. It is NOT low self esteem. It does mean that when you pay money for a class, you shut up, listen, absorb all that is there, and ask as many questions as possible. The instructor (and your class) really does not want to hear how you think you used to do it back when you were whatever you were.

On the flip side... whenever I do encounter people like this I cringe. And after I get over the initial revulsion, I do a "Pete-check" just to see if there is any of them in me. If there is, then I have my work cut out for me. I never want want anyone to ever look at me and say... "Hey, that guy is just like that couple that walked out of my class the other night." In life, it's always best to start with the man in the mirror...

thanks for the great story telling. Like everyone else will be very interested in hearing any follow up. Hope your experience in the future is more positive. I have found most in the dive world are good people.

Just a thought, aren't you glad these two found each other, that way no one else is stuck with them!

I agree that those two are setting them selves up for a Darwin Award of some sort, but the sad part is that they just might take a non-darwin with them. Let just hope that doesn't happen.

Other then that .. nice story and I agree with the NETDoc too. We need to look at our selves and make sure we are not doing what we detest.
