Hello, I am looking for some advice. I currently have the Aeris Elite T3 computer. I am looking for a compact SPG/Depth gauge as a backup. I don't want to end up having to miss out on a dive because the transmitter isn't working or be in a scary situation if something happens to my computer underwater. Does anyone have any recommendations of something that is compact but serves as a good backup in the case of emergency or computer failure?

TIA,

TIA,

I dive with an uwatec smart tec and have an OMS spg and uwatec bottom timer as backup. I bungee the bottom timer on my wrist but I suppose you could put it on the back of the spg. It has been useful a couple of times.

Scorpio,

I have a Citizen Hyper Aqualand dive watch/depth gauge coupled with an analog SPG.
That gives me total redundancy plus the ability to manually compute my SAC rate on any given dive.

I just got a air integrated computer and was wondering if it would be smart to have a backup spg? I wil be doing mostly recreational diving. Whats your thoughts?

Is your computer wireless? I think this depends on your comfort level. My computer is wireless and on my first dive in Cozumel I was using my brand new computer, an Aeris Elite T3. I'd tested in the pool at the LDS only 4 days prior and everything was in working order. When I got into the water before my descent my computer would not read my pressure. I was forced to thumb the dive and borrow the DM's backup reg for the second dive. Turns out the battery in my transmitter was dead. Replaced the battery and the rest of the week was great but I learned an important lesson. Backups!! I just purchased a backup SPG at my LDS to prevent this from happening in the future.

Cressi has some really small low profile 2 and 3 gauge consoles that would be ideal for that I think.

That's what many of us do. I think it's a prudent choice, and done properly really doesn't get in the way. Use a 24" hose running from your first stage and clip it off to a D Ring on your left, and you'll never have to worry about it again. :)
