Just got my husband this set up with the sola 800 light and the red magic filter. Does he need to take off the filter when using the light or does it depend on depth and distance from the subject? I take pictures not video so I need a little advice... Thanks

It depends on the depth and distance. I have the same setup, except I have the 1200 Sola. I remove the filter for close up shots and just use the light. I also take it off for night dives. The Magic Filter does a good job helping the light out where it does not hit.
