I have a Dive Rite Backplate SS XT Lite.

The majority of my dives are in warm water where no wetsuit is needed and I just wear a rash guard. Recently, after about 2 days of diving, I noticed the backplate was rubbing a raw spot where my shoulder blade makes contact with the plate. I'm sure the triangular holes on the backplate are the culprit (that, and my skin is a little thin). My first thought was to buy a pad as Dive Rite sells one that fits on to the backplate.

But then I thought "Maybe a plate without the holes would be better..."

Does anyone have similar experience they're willing to share and how they solved it?

I think I'm leaning towards the full plate....

Do you need extra weight?

Not really. I normally use 6-8 lbs additional, depending on if the boat has 3 pounders or 4 pounders. But I certainly wouldn’t mind shifting those lbs to my backplate.

Those weights are currently in trim pockets that attach to my tank cam straps.

I'm trying to come up with a subject for a thread, nope seems everyone else has it under control
