Zeagle makes trim weight holders that hold 6lbs. each. They strap onto your tank bands. They are $10.00 bucks each at LeisurePro.
This was you can avoid creating your own "foundry" in your basement-like Netrug did-but I have to admit that I admire that confidence and rugged individualism.

If you're going to put them on your cylinder straps, just thread the straps through the weights and the total coset is $0.00! :)

Roak

Threading a weight through a tank band is a good idea-but it might not work well. Remember that the band is holding the tank down with friction-the tighter the tank band the more friction-the tighter the tank to the BC. If you can place a weight - it would have to be two- one on each side of the tank for stability-I say give it a try. But I don't think there will be enough room between the BC and the tank to try this.
The other drawback of this arrangement is that you have to rethread your BC straps back through the buckles every time you go to a dive site-unless you just leave them on-which is a hassle to drag weight around.
So there is the pain in the ass factor-not too much there. But I would be skeptical if you can fit the weight in between the tank and the BC-but if it works you just saved $20.00!!!!!-that's 4-5 FREE tank fills!!!!!

LOL...Ya know I think I'd just spend the 20 bucks and get the nice Zeagle trim weight holders.:p

No No
here's what you can do! Attach 2 empty Clorox bleach bottles to your tank bands....when you get to the dive site fill them with sand!!! It's economical-old bottle are cheap and practical-sand is everywhere around those MN. lakes.
Now go one step further.
Drop that heavy air tank!!!! Get a large inflatable beach ball at Target(the Greatland stores have everything) and fill it at the gas station-SuperAmerica doesn't charge anything for air-and you can use one of their gauges if you ask nice. You might need a couple of these beach balls for longer dives. But, hey no biggie there, just get yourself some more Clorox bottles!!!!!!-just check the neighbors recycling bin the night before.
Fins? Who needs em'.....construction season just ended and there's plenty of old pressed board that's just dying to be cut into long, thin planks and bungied to your feet.
"I don't have a dry suit" you say?.....take that old Arctic Cat snowmobile suit that's hanging your closet and a bottle of 3Ms best scotchguard fabric-better make that 8 bottles-Spray that bad boy until it's dripping with Scotchguard-that's suit is now w-a-t-e-r-p-r-o-o-f!!!

I have lots of "home made" ideas to use.....and they'll all save you lots of money!!!!!
