Furner:
im trying it on in street clothes, but im only diving a 3mm suit, so there is not much difference.

To me, it makes a huge difference. The image of someone walking around the living room wearing a suit and tie, and a backplate, is amusing.

I think that if it hurts that much, a wetsuit is not quite the proper solution..

Its worth a shot, if for no other reason than to eliminate an obvious simple solution.
Like you would with a car.

jeans and a tshirt, but, yes, it still looks silly. at the time though, this is not a laughing matter. although a lack of planning on my part, im still going to be in a pinch to have proper gear ready to dive with in less than a week.

anyone else have experience with the hammerhead plates? I doubt I can get one to my house before I leave though.

I didn't mean to make light of you're situation. Why don't you just try it with a wetsuit? If you don't already have one, maybe you could save up for one of those James Bond models that keeps your tuxedo nice and dry (repleat with cummerbun warmer). I really believe that trying it with a wetsuit is a better idea than shopping for a new plate with less than a week to go.

Is there any reason a person could not DIY the corner bending? AL is usually pretty soft and should not be too difficult to bend, right?
I am a very DIY person, I just am feeling that if I make a bad mistake, I dont have time to get it fixed.
