Have been thinking about getting a back up dive computer -my primary is a Sherwood Wisdom II - but wondering about whether it is advisable to get one that uses a similar algorithm. Leaning towards the Oceanic B.U.D. but would appreciate some input. Thanks.

I use a Uwatec Aladin 2G as a backup. It has five levels of conservetivness (not sure if that's a real word, but...) which made it easy to sync up with my main, a VT3.

I personally would find a dirt cheap new or used PC with the same algorithm (IIRC Oceanic, Aeris, Sherwood and Genesis all use the DSAT algorithm). To me, 300 is a bit much for something I'll probably never use.

I wouldn't pay $300 for it either. You can find it online for $200.

I bought one and it will serve the purpose as a backup quite nicely. It will run either DSAT or Z+.

I don't like used stuff. Besides, the $249 I paid isn't that much to pay for something that I know is going to works when I need it to work the most.
