Can anyone suggest a computer that is less conservative than the Galileo Sol for back-up? I bought a Tusa Zen and it is more conservative rendering it not the best backup! Oh, and if you want to by a Zen with about 2 dives on it....

Actually the Tusa Zen is based on a Pelagic design (table in the link is wrong for the Zen) so it should be as conservative as Oceanic's dive computers.

Check the settings on your Tusa Zen. This computer has a conservative mode setting that is probably causing your problem.

Personally, I have mixed emotions about using the conservative settings on dive computers. On a recent trip, two divers went into deco mode on what was a briefly deep and then fairly shallow, but long dive. One diver ended up doing an extended safety stop, while the other one, which we call Dory, came up to the surface and got locked out for 24 hours. A bunch of us were scratching our heads since we dove deeper and longer, but were nowhere near deco. Added safety if fine until it creates undue alarm.

I do like the conservative mode for situations where an individual might not be representative of divers that were used to develop the algorithms. Conservative mode is probably great for someone with a physical limitation or old people over 50 years old.

Sherwoods are pretty "liberal." I dive two - one air-integrated (Wisdom 2) and one wrist-mount (InSight). The same algorithm means that both computers are singing off the same page of the choir book.

Bottom timer, tables, and brain.

You bother to keep track of your residual nitrogen (group, penalty time/depth, or however you were taught) between dives while diving a computer so that, in case your computer fails, you can use the tables and bottom timer to correctly determine your safe bottom time?! You are a dedicated diver with keen attention to detail. Either that, or I am a technology-dependent lazy sloth...
