Hello, Im looking to get a backplate wing system for tech diving/cave diving. Im not sure which one i should get, I thought of a Apex WTX system, OMS with the IQ Pack system, Dive Right Classic wing system. What do you guys think?
Thanks

Give a peek at Zeagles offering also. You can do a search on the topic here on SB and find multi threads!

I was thinking of a Recon cause of the lift and d-rings, But can not find much info on them. How are the zeagles in the tech world?

I own the Apex WTX Harness. I also own the OMS system. I would throw out another to look at. Deep Outdoors Double Covalent Bladder, with traditional backplate and 2" Webbing (for reference I use a custom 10 pound backplate in salt water with my drysuit). I would use thigh pockets by Dive Rite. If you have a drysuit, they probably have them built in to them. As for weights, should you need any, look the DUI Weight and Trim Harness. When diving my tech rig, I usually don't need weight.

I like the WTX system. You need to tinker a bit with the hip D Ring so it does catch everything in site. Sticks out like a sore thumb. I find the 60 pound wing is a little "flappy" and creates a lot of drag. I would buy a double bladder and you can take your wing right into Trimix if desired. Buy right, buy once. I like the OMS wing, but prefer the deep outdoors wing because has an internal compression system versus an external (banded) system. I also like the convenient pocket for the redundant hose (and its in the front of the bladder).

I am confident much of this is not DIR, so do not flame because of the configuration. I was just throwing out some additional ideas to those he already had.

PS - Personally, not a fan of the OMS Comfort Harness. If you look OMS, stick with the IQ pack or the BP and Webbing.

Zeagle systems of various componants are used heavely in tec diving. Deep Outdoors is a pricey set-up and their line tends to be bulky and heavy in my oppion,,though they have a loyal following. Dive Rite is a good system with many oppions. I tend to like Zeagle. Look around and see if you can test dive a few set-ups.

Great advice: If you can get someone to loan you a setup (and they are the same size), it is a great way to test gear. Zeagle is a nice system (I have a friend who swears by it). I prefer the traditional webbing and backplate with adjustable D rings. Inexpensive, highly flexible and customizable, always performs well and keeps everything out of my way.

I find it surprising that you think Deep Outdoors is pricey in comparison to Zeagle. Then again the only Zeagle dealer in my neck of the woods is not known for bargain pricing ;) .

Boy, there are threads and threads on this topic, but I'll throw out my recommendation: Deep Sea Supply. They have plates in various sizes, wings in various sizes and shapes, and Tobin will work very closely with you until he's sure that you are ordering precisely the gear you want and need and will be happy with. Customer service from DSS is excellent. I've referred several friends there, and NOBODY has come away unhappy.

Thank you, I will look at DSS stuff right now.
