NetDoc:
Hog rigs were designed with minimalism in mind: NOT COMFORT. Heck, the first one was a scavanged stop sign! They do great at providing a stable base for large tanks or doubles. However, calling them "as comfortable" as a padded BC, is like calling a Jeep as comfortable as a Caddilac! You don't drive a Jeep for it's quiet comfy ride. You might find it's comfort level acceptable, but it was never designed to be as comfy or as adjustable as a traditional BC. No, you tolerate the jolts and the harshness because the Jeep can get you through certain terrain where the caddy can't.

Speaking for myself, I would disagree with that analogy. My Bp/wing rigs feel like settling into the driver's seat of a Ferrari while my padded BC feels more like a Hummer! I don't "tolerate" the feel of my Hog rigs... I prefer it.

It is certainly understandable that people will have different ideas on this point. What's comfortable to me may not be comfortable to you. Forget webbing, padding, steel plates, and design issues. While these things may indeed affect individual comfort, the only valid argument that you should consider is, "My BC feels more comfortable to me" or " I prefer the feel of my BP/wing over my standard BC." So take that for what it's worth.

There are enough divers here that find their BP/wings more comfortable than their standard BCs to at least SUGGEST that one of these rigs MIGHT be comfortable on you. This, of course, doesn't mean that there aren't plenty of folks that prefer the feel of their standard BC. However, you won't be able to get to the bottom of this particular question on comfort by reading what we say here on SB. You will have to get in the water and put some time into both setups to see which feels better to you.

Besides, there are many things other than comfort to consider! Anyone care to run with that?

BTW, Matt...

... I see that you are a college student on a budget. Unfortunately you missed the best deal in town... the complete Golem rig that Golemgear.com has been giving away for $350. But... you could put together a sweet setup by looking at what Ken (Motivation) has listed in our gear exchange forum. For $380 you could get what I think is an old style ... that would be their best... 27# Pioneer wing in new condition, a fully rigged Halcyon plate and harness, and a Halcyon STA. Good to go for under $400... that would be a nice deal.

Did someone say Golem gear? Wow what a great unit. These things are tough as nails! It is generally more comfortable than the zeagle ranger I had, but the steel sure feels cold if you don't have anything on.

edit: Guess the deal was missed. That is too bad. Hmm...

I don't think he missed any deals though. The deal is still going on the site.

Really? I just looked and I thought that it was back up to the original price. I'll look again.

Yeah I checked.. Salvo now has the price really hiked up too.

I just got lucky around christmas time. Considering the Zeagle retails for around $500 - $600 the new wing prices are still pretty reasonable.

Nah... the Golem is a top of the line rig and originally had a price to match...
... you just got in on a killer deal! :D

I agree... it's still a great buy.

The best thing you can do is find someone that has one for you to try out. I will never forgive detroitdiver for making me try his :D

Rachel

P.S. I like 'em.

Are you interested in selling your Black diamond BC? What size is it? What price are you asking?
