i have finished my PADI open water this month. Did it in Gili Air, off Lombok, near Bali.

my problem is i live in the middle of cornfields in Iowa!

It would be great to meet some other people, just incase i find a way to escape again~

Welcome to the Board. Iowa....hmmmm I have been to Eldon, IA but can't think of anyplace to dive there. Have fun, be safe, and practice the skills you have learned. Even if it is just in the pool hit the water.

Welcome to Scubaboard, Sara.

I myself have escaped from Iowa on a more permanent basis. I'm in the Chicagoland area now and just got certified this year myself. From Ames, you are only around 6 hours from Chicago, give or take and that gives you access to Lake Michigan and a bunch of fresh water wrecks. Its not Bali and you'll probably need a wee bit more neoprene, but what the heck.

The other location I'm really looking forward to in the Midwest is Bonne Terre mines outside of St. Louis. A former lead mine that has been allowed to flood, its got something like 27 miles of waterways underground. Because there is no vegetation or fish to speak of, the visibility is supposed to be incredible.

Again, welcome and safe & happy diving.

Hey, even though it says I'm from Florida, I'm a not so recent transplant from Iowa. I still have some buddies in the Ames area that dive and teach dive classes at ISU. PM me your contact info if you would like me to try to connect you up with them.

I'm originally from Burlington, IA. Come over to the Great Lakes. I can't give you viz and water temps like Bali, but we have awesome wrecks.

Go Hawkeyes!!!

Thanks! it would be great to know some divers, new or old in the Ames area. my email is sarammartin@mchsi.com if you would pass it on. im 37, lived around her all my life, returning ISU student and just got my open water dive certification in Indonesia.

welcome aboard
