I just got my new Atomic B2 regulator with a Z1 octo and spg and am going to assemble it shortly. I would be very appreciative if anyone can show a comfortable port configuration that they use

...well, one suggestion, make sure you arrange everything so that the swivel turret is pointed downward....it will lead to a lower profile, less chance of banging your head on the 1st-stage...and you won't look like a complete newbie......

an idea, mount your BC on a tank...then mount the 1st-stage to the tank.....and study the 1st-stage port layout....make sure you see the difference between a LP versus a HP port....and practice laying out the hoses in a logical fashion...it should be pretty obvious, especially as I'll bet you only have 4 hoses/ports to mess with.

...let's face it, it ain't exactly like trying to figure out a RUBIX CUBE.

As said turret down. Standing behind the reg (i.e. yoke knob at ya belly button). HP hose on the left HP port. BCD LP hose on one of the two left LP posts. Primary reg LP hose on the right forward LP port, Secondary reg (aka Octo) LP hose on the right back port. Why primary on the forward and the secondary on the back? Keeps the hoses from crossing over each other. Note I am assuming that your octo will come under you arm and attach to your BCD - if your octo is on a necklace and around your neck then the opposite.

Of course there are people who can solve a Rubix cube faster than most can set up a reg :).

I do mine as Scared Silly, with the addition of a dry suit hose. I put the low pressure inflator on the left forward port and the dry suit on the left rear, bringing the dry suit hose under my arm.

First stage goes down and in - closest to your head. Here's my T2, I'm guessing yours is similar.

Thanks everyone for the comments, I had not considered the turret in a down position. I am a newbie, but truly hate to look like one, so this will help... at least until my limited experience makes it evident lol. This summer will be dedicated to removing the newbie label so hopefully in a few months I will reasonably competent.

There's no set rule. I dove a few years ago with a PADI Master Instructor (only Course Director is higher) - same reg - and his was up. When I asked why he said he'd never really thought about it since it works the same in either position. I just like it since it protects the reg from being the first thing hit if (when) I hit something with the tank valve. One other benefit, I dropped my gear off a tailgate a couple years ago - fully assembled. It did a 180 onto the pavement but since the top of the valve stuck out just a little more than the reg, it wasn't even scratched - might've scuffed the rubber cap.

If your reg has the same 4 LP ports clustered together, I'm not using the 2nd from the left counterclockwise.

1st Stage is down like others have said so that the rubber bumper is up and protecting it against impact. As far as which HP & LP ports for which HP and LP hoses, that's up to you and how you like the hoses ending up. Don't hesitate to experiment a bit.
