Hi,

i have a new prosub dominator b/c. It is leaking air from the power inflator where it attaches to the b/c. the air is seaping past the o-ring. i have it apart and everything looks good. it started after i took it apart (a screw ring and rubber gasket are all that there is to it. i would like to know if i can use vaseline on it to seal it. the b/c is mail order and i really like it so i would like to fix it myself although i dont think it is a defect.

thx,

mike

My suggestion would be to take a very close look at the rubber washer and it's seating surface and make sure they are clean and flat then reassemble them and test if you have not already done it. It's most likely that you got something under the seal when you put it together the last time. As this is a low pressure fitting, don't torque it down too tight, just snugg with your hand. I don't recommend any grease of any kind on this seal. Its ment to be a dry seal and some lubes like vaseline may cause damage to the rubber seal as well as to the BC (any warrenty would be shot at that point). The silicon grease used on O rings is for an assembly lube, not for sealing. If that fails, them 2 options come to mind, drop by your local dive shop and see if they can help or ship it back.

You don't want to be putting any sort of grease at where that "washer" is located.

It really does sound like you need another "washer". Just make sure you don't over-tighten that screw ring when you're putting things back together!
