...I am assuming most of the people diving 100+ per year must either DM or teach.
Some maybe. I'm a DM, but less than 10 of the dives I did last year were as a DM. The rest were for fun. And as I said - I was slacking and still got well over a hundred!
Talon:
Even diving every other weekend (normal 2 tank) would only put you half way to 100.
If I was only diving every other weekend, I would be doing more than 2 dives each day!

I am truly amazed you can't find a dive buddy more than once a month in Florida?!?!?!
The Conch forum on this board seems like there are always dives going on and folks looking for buddies?

I wonder how do you get the time and money to do that?

I only have the chance of diving about 2 weeks a year and that's about 10- 15 dives!
Time - a good work schedule helps.
Money - owning my own gear and an econo car to get me to the dive sites.Still not cheap, but cheaper than if I had to rest gear and could only dive if I had to fly first.

Wow.... I'd be seriously bored if I went someplace to dive for two weeks and only did 10-15 dives!

I did 63 dives in '04 and 52 dives in '05. Right now I'm at 5 a month so I should be on track for 60 or so dives this year. I only did 22 dives in '03 and a total of 18 dives from '97(the year I certified) to 2003.

WOW... I am truly surprised at how many dives people are averaging. I consider 100 dives a year A LOT. I am assuming most of the people diving 100+ per year must either DM or teach. In my dive club, I probably am the most active diver and I've yet to reach 100 in one year. Even diving every other weekend (normal 2 tank) would only put you half way to 100. And I have a hard enough time finding people to dive once a a MONTH.

Kudo's to you all that make it! I'm on pace to MAYBE get to 100 this year, but it will have to depend on the hurricane season.

hey look at it this way - 100 dives a year (considering 2 tanks) is barely a 2 tank every weekend. thats maybe a lot in some areas, in others its just daily live :o). when i worked in florida i did about 900+ dives a year, granted working fulltime. but many of our interns and regular divers came easily up to 200 / 300+ a year. its all about location and convinience to do it! in some areas youre poss king of the crew with 30! dont spend tooo much time on thinking about it - just do it when you can.
i have sometimes (since stopping teaching fulltime) 300 dives a year and other times nearly 600. it depends on my time, money to spend etc..

Oh, I see...

Those two weeks are not continous, I go one week in early summer and one week in the autum. And I only do 2 dives a day for about 5 or 4 days.

I will start to dive more now, because I fidn out that a place about 4 hors driving from my city has greta reef diving! But befor eI only travel by airplane to diving destinations.

Hmmm.... if it was me driving 4 hours to do some reef diving in warm water, I would be doing more than 2 dives a day :D

Unfortunately in the cold local waters, my limit is 2 or 3 one+ hour dives per day before I start getting too cold to enjoy it any more :bawling:

i got 100 my first year, and none teaching. i'm not a dm & don't play one on tv. i'm just an average addict!

Waterdawg,

I can see that I'll going to have to step it up now. I've only had my boat for a couple of months now also so this summer should be awsome....
