Nice dive in the Savannah River today. Vis was only 6-7' (gets up to 15' in the summer in periods of low rain). Water temps are warming (65 degrees today). Lots of fish life, turtles and history in the "Big Drift" as we call it. Shipwreck in 19', old Hamburg bridge remains, Hamburg cotton docks from the 1800s remain (they just cut the posts off about 3-4' underwater, the rock base and lower part of the posts remain - fish life here - and runs over a mile of river). On the GA side are trees and large boulders in the water (mo' fish life). Depths are shallow (20' or so). Short dive today, only 2:06 . We are doing it again tomorrow at 1p.

Where do you begin & end? Do you drift from one to the other, or fight the current? I've done the plane in the lake a few times, and wondered what else might be fun.

Me fight current? Not if I don't have too. There are several good river dives in the Augusta area (same river - Savannah, different spots). The dive we did yesterday was the drift from the 5th street marina to the Boathouse. It is about a mile or so in distance. Current was slow yesterday, but does pick up at times when the Corps is generating power upstream. Give a shout and join us sometime. Another nice dive is from the N. Augusta boat ramp. This is one that you do haev to go against the current unless you ahve someone with a boat dropping you off. It is a totally different dive as it is in the fall line of the river. the bottom there is large boulders and sheets of rock.

Another great dive in the Savannah River today. Water temp was 68 which felt great on this 100 degree day. Vis was actually better today - about 10'. Lots of fish life (bass - some real nice sized ones, sunfish, crappie, freshwater eels, etc). More current today than yesterday so the drift last only 96 min. Very enjoyable day with friends. I am convinced that when our river is clear like it was today, this is one of the best freshwater dives in the Southeast (I like it better than Rainbow River in FL. as there is so much more to see and no boat is needed). IF (underline "IF") we get no rain this week, we could have awesome diving next weekend.

Glad to hear the river is clearing. We tried a dive about 2 weeks ago below 5th street and the conditions were pitiful. On bottom viz was about a foot and very dark, and colder than expected. Your right about the Savannah being awesome when it clears. People cant belive it when I tell em about the 20ft viz of 2 years ago.
