Minding my own business at the 10 ft. safety stop when this remora came out of no ware and jumped me...it really starlled me!

That's a nice photo. Remoras like to attach something. I live in Tampa and was doing a beach dive in the Gulf. The water was warm and I was wearing a t-shirt and shorts. A remora swam up my shorts! Not knowing what it was I swatted at it. The poor remora panicked and bit me on a buttock before escaping. It left a welt. That was the only time that I have ever been "attacked" by marine life.

Great picture!

Same thing happened to me in Grand Cayman. Little guy would not go away, and was very very persistent. We ended up leaving the water just to get away.

Actuall this one was persistant as well! It attacked other divers as they did their stops as well. It nibbled on a couple of Gal divers ears and pulled one's pony tail so hard she thought it was another diver fooling around. I had one try to attach to me when diving the Bart off Panama City Beach, FL too. They are sure curious creatures. :)

This past summer I was running a trimx class with a student.. We had a shark pass fairly close to us around 210 fsw. I was on a rebreather so I was very quiet and the remora decided I would be a better host than a shark.. The remora stayed with me all the way to shore probably 1500 yards or so. Tried attaching himself to my rebreather and my person more than once even affter "shooing" him.. One time I lost track of it and I looked down, If my student had a camera I would have been a cadidate for a porno mag.. His positioning made a bull look small :) Would have been a great joke picture..

I finally lost him in about 3 or 4 feet of water, talk about persistant.. So it unded up beein a 3 "man" dive team for about 2 hours, instead of the 2 of us that entered :)

I was diving the Hesperaus in Bimini when a school of these puppies came by. They are very persistant to say the least.

A buddy didn't know he had one on his chest. You should have seen him jump when he finally realized it was there.

Here is another critter that was bugging me off Venice Beach
(Please see attached).

The remora is a parasite and a free-loader. I also had one go for me and had to fend him off. I guess they think we are either a shark, or a pretty good substitute. What's with that megamoray?

I had rather too much attention from an amorous Shark Sucker on my very first Open Water dive in Zanzibar. I couldn't work out what was going on.

Freaked me out so much I nearly didn't dive again....yeah! As if!

:eek:ut:
