Hey guys,

I'd like to know for those of you diving hogarthian, what do you think it's the best way to attach your SMB? Is there a specific SMB that you find particularly fitting for the hogarthian rig? I like my config to have as little hanging things as possible.

Cheers

I’ll start with four possibilities, all of which I have used at one time or another. There are probably many others, and some of mine might be considered inadequately DIR. My SMB now is a 6ft Halcyon 'sausage'. These apply to my lift bags as well. 1. SMB rolled up, with double ender clip exposed, and clipped to my BP, lower left side. A variation on this is to stow the SMB in a mesh sleeve (Dive Rite in my case) and attach the sleeve to my BP, vertically aligned on the lower left side, with the sleeve opening at the bottom; 2. SMB rolled up, with double-ender clip exposed, and clipped to a butt D-ring on my crotch strap – it is behind me, easily accessible, doesn’t float too much because I dive double steel HP 120s which are long; 3. SMB stowed under a BP cover (Halcyon makes one, which I have used, as does OMS); 4. Stowed in a sleeve (Dive Rite, in my case) which is then attached to a slung pony bottle (30 cf) using big nylon tie-wraps.

Depends on which rig and which SMB we're talking about.

In NJ wreck diving where I'm carrying a lift bag I tuck it into the MC pack on my H backplate.

In warm water pretty-fishy diving I'm carrying a rolled-up sausage with a bolt-snap cave rigged to it, which is then clipped onto my left hip d-ring

SMB's are not used in caves, so you have just departed from the limits of a Hog configuration anyway.

The suggestions above are good. My preference though is to roll or fold an SMB and then store it along the bottom edge of the backplate. Tie two loops of bungee through holes on the bottom of the plate and then slide the rolled bag or folded smb through them. The loops need to be sized so that they hold the bag securely but allow it to be pulled free without any difficulty. When stowed that way it is out of the way and very streamlined but still accessible from either side.

While I do not have a BP&W, I did rig mine up as DA says he did for his, except that mine is along the lower left side, vertical .. works very well, secure, no flopping around and easy to deploy
I don't dive a Hog rig, but I did get my idea from looking at a friends BP&W who did.. have pics in my gallery if you want to look see (it has a stainless clip attached to SMB that is not in pics)

I attach my SMB to the bottom corner hole on the right side of my back plate.

You are in Switzerland so I am guessing cold water. Put it in your drysuit pocket. If you are in warm water, look at x-shorts or get pockets on your wetsuit. You will never regret the decision.
