Has anyone bought the Atomic swivel (w/hose) for their non-Atomic reg? Did anyone get the custom sized hose (comes standard with 32" I believe)? If so, how much did you pay and how long did it take to get? I'm thinking of getting the 40" hose.

I tried to order a 7' Atomic Swivel for my B2 regulator 7 months ago. My LDS told me because it's a custom length hose it's going to cost me $320 from Atomic. Maybe the price has changed by now (or they were trying to make a quick buck), but I gotta say that the swivel is awesome! Why 40"?

$320 is right thats what it cost me for a 36``

You don't need a swivel with a 7 foot hose.

Why go with a 7' hose?

It's the most sensible way to dive. Your backup is bungeed under the neck and the long hose allows for comfortable ascents while sharing air.

Since I had the original post, I thought I'd update with what I ended up doing. I went with a Kirby Morgan swivel from TDL on a 40" hose for my OW (non-penetration) diving. I have a bungeed backup. Works wonders (great swivel, none of the problems of those being held together with a tiny screw) and MUCH cheaper than the Atomic option.

Could you give a link for that where you got that Kirby Morgan swivel? Sounds like a good option for those of us who do not use seven foot long hoses. Thanks in advance. N

For those not diving a 7' hose, I think this is a very good way to go. It buys you the benefits of handing off your primary in an OOA situation (w/ bungeed backup), while not requiring a long hose needed for penetration. While I may ultimately go to a 7' hose (perhaps even in the near future), my current set up works well for me (and my partner; she has the same). The swivel is sold by Tech Diving Limited (http://www.techdivinglimited.com/), though it does *not* appear on their website. Just call and ask for it. In fact, when I bought it (a few months ago), it was on sale.
