In addition to the other benefits already mentioned, the SS1 makes it simply properly rinse the inside of the BC bladder.
You simply unscrew the SS1, fill with water through the corrugated hose, swish the water around and dump the water out.

Better still, the SS1 thread is the same as a standard garden hose. To rinse my daughter's BC, we unscrew the reg and attach a hose and let it run a few minutes. She has 4 "OPV type" dumps and the water flushes out through those. It looks like a lawn sprinkler.

I dive BPW/s and all my air cells have a single OPV. I have a corrugated hose that has the female SS1 adapter. It is easier for me to swap corrugated hoses and a attach a garden hose than it is to rinse through my standard inflator after a dive.

Zeagle makes a standard inflator that is similarly threaded and can be removed for rinsing the BC

Since I don't have Kevin or Tony's budget (or Downey's, either I suppose) I'm investing in quality nuclear regs, and more modest brands for some other stuff (BCs and computers). I figure that if there's one part of the gear to splurge on a bit, it's probably best to do that with the regs, in hopes of years of trouble-free service. I figure my mid-range BC probably will be fine (this gear is for travel), and my low-end basic computer will be good enough for a few years (I can wait a few years until I'm ready to spend for the upgrades to air-integration, nitrox - and Miflex hoses).

Solid choices all the way around. Have a great trip!

OK, so I have my new gear. For the most part, it seems great, pretty much as I had hoped. One more question about the SS1....

Is there any trick to removing the SS1 corrugated hose from the BCD? Mine doesn't seem to want to just twist off as I would expect, and I don't want to break anything by trying to force things.

I assume that the easy-detachment fitting is not some special option, and that if things were assembled correctly, my SS1 should come off the BCD pretty easily - correct? Anything special I need to do to detach it?

I'm currently trying to figure out a good, minimalist reg bag for travel. Whatever bag that ends up being (I might buy something new or use an existing "travel cube" type pouch), it will go in my carry on, so I'm looking for the minimum reasonable size. I figure if I can pull the SS1 off the BCD for travel, it belongs in the reg bag (and will allow the BCD to pack down smaller). But first I need to figure out out to detach it.

Thanks!

I unscrew my SS1 from the hose and toss it in my reg bag, which then goes into my closet when in storage and my carry-on bag when I travel. I leave the hose attached to my BC, both in my closet and when I travel.

But when I want to detach the hose from the BC, like when I'm rinsing my gear once I'm through diving, it unscrews from my BC easily. There's a small threaded ring that surrounds the hose. I just grasp and turn it much like opening a jar.

I never remove the corrugated hose from the BCD, I simply unscrew the SS1 and store it separately when storing the BCD. After each day of diving I simply unscrew the SS1 and fill the BCD with fresh water through the open corrugated hose. I slosh the water around and then turn the BCD upside down to empty the water. When I am traveling the SS1 gets unscrewed and paced in the carry-on with the BCD, regulator mask (prescription), dive computer etc.

After a each dive trip I rinse off the SS1 and unscrew it from the corrugated hose. I then dump BC Life or some similar product into the BCD and fill it with fresh warm water and let it soak while I clean of other things. I then dump the water out of the BCD and rinse with fresh water.
