Now, what makes Atomic so special that they could get away with a 2 year service interval? Are their replacement parts better than other regulator's replacement parts? I wouldn't think that the non-replaceable parts have anything to do with it, but honestly, I dunno anything about Atomic regulators. Could and would someone please enlighten me?

With kindest regards from North Carolina,
Thomas

Nothing
No
Atomic has no warranted parts replacement program. You gotta pay for the service kits. That probably has something to do with the two-year service interval. They do seem to have better plating on their parts than do other manufacturers, and they have models made of stainless steel, monel, and titanium, none of which corrode very readily.

Hope this helps some. Atomics are not superregulators--they're just very good. And rather expensive.

I doubt there is anything seriously special about Atomic. The fact is MOST regulators can easily go two years between service intervals.

I have to question why the service is not based on use rather than on a calendar year.

If one does 200 dives a year, annual service is likely wise. For those that do 25 dives a year, annual service is likely a waste of money.

Atomic favors the use of titanium in many of their regulators. As you may know, titanium is superior when it comes to the effects of corrosion. Inside their first stages looks like a Scuba Pro MK10, but then again the two engineers that started Atomic were from Scubapro.

Dive Rite also has a two year service interval but with free parts. I just sent one of my Atomics in for a two year service (80 dives). I'll try to remember to post anything unusual that the servicer tellls me. FWIW, I had a Dive Rite serviced last year after a two year interval (50 dives?), and nothing unusual was noted.
