Atlantis submarine

I did the Atlantis with the wife in Grand Cayman about 10 years ago as that was the only way I could get her underwater.

It was kinda neat, but when we were at 110 fsw I wished I had brought my gear and they had let me out to have some fun.

Once was enough for me; a 2 tank dive trip is cheaper and more fun...for me. But, if your family doesn't dive it may be a way to get them to see what's underwater for a bit. The wife liked it, but I still can't get her in water over 4 feet deep while swimming and diving is out of the question.

Same place, same trip- and it was expensive! I think $250 or $300 PP - and this sub went down 700 feet; don't tknow if the one in Coz (although I've passed it many times) is a glorified glass bottom boat.

And we left from the harbor at Georgetown; you want to cry with the damage done to the wall there.

Do it once, maybe - but twice - no way

Hi-Sure is a lot of negative feedback on the sub. This wont be.
My two dive buddies and I put our wives on the sub. We dive with Scubamau and we made a special trip to meet the sub. That was a blast. I took a sign down with me that said ' Got Beer?'. The photos are great. It's fun to try and hunt the sub down when you are close to it. All you can hear is the whine of the engines and the search is on. It's fun. The sub captain likes it when divers find him. It's very cool for the submariners to see us. My wife love the views. She does not dive and she really does know what I see now. My pictures mean more to her now. For the fun of it- go to you-tube and search submarine-a$$. That was my friend doing a little show. hilarious! I really recommend it for your family. Go with a dive op that will meet the sub. You will find the sub op right across from the Park Royal hotel. The see a video first and get a little run down on the trip. have fun kev

Yeah, sounds like my daughter. We just came back from Coz, and we took her and her intended along. Neither one was a diver, but that is probably gonna change once her friend Kam gets going on this. He had a 'Discover Scuba' course while down there, and he is well hooked. But my daughter? Lots of luck on that one. My divemaster actually got her to try a tank in a pool, and she did fairly well, but that is as far as it got. She will probably never forgive me for getting Kam "infected" Woody

Now we all know this is one of those things best suited for pod people and under any other circumstances, you wouldn't catch me giving a second thought to the notion of being held captive with so many of them. However, for those traveling with people that can't or won't dive I think it's about the best way to let them see what we see and possibly, like any documentary about the oceans and reefs that are thinly woven with an environmental/conservation message, they can walk away from the experience with a new outlook of while lies below the surface. I know for us traveling with a young child it has been a consideration but with an imposed height limit it hasn't come to fruition yet. Perhaps our trip in June?

Adult price is $99 or $89 if booked online. Kids up to 12 years are $59 + $2 MPF for each person.

we did the Atlantis on Maui before my wife was a diver, for someone who doesn't dive, it is a pretty cool experience. It would probably even be better on Coz with the more colorful reef system than on Hawaii. Even for a diver, just being on a sub was kind of cool.

Here on Oahu I know a guy who staged a "knife fight" with his buddy to put on a show for their guests. When the sub circled around, since they were only in shorts and a tee-shirt, they gave them the full moon and created a legend. The guys is now some sort of head of NOAA's Pacific diving operations. Many have since done it, but Atlantis gets all pissed and yells at them on the surface.

I just came back from Lahaina in Maui and we were told we'd see the sub while diving the Carthiginian wreck and that if we mooned the sub, we wouldn't be doing the second dive. I guess some folks have no sense of humor.....

hmmm....I'm thinking we'll find the sub next visit to Coz and introduce the occupants to a Warhammer Maneuver.
