Astonishing New Sinkhole, Blue Hole Some Century In The Future?

This just formed in Guatemala City.

Speaking of karst features and blue holes, here's a close relative that just formed in Guatemala. It just appeared in the news. It is an amazing and terrifying sight for residents. Tragically it has cost some residents their lives. Another outgrowth of Tropical Storm Agatha and all the horrible losses related to its passage over Central America.

"Storm Opens Giant Sinkhole in Guatemala City
(June 1) -- It looks like a gateway to hell. A 200-foot-deep sinkhole in the north of Guatemala City suddenly opened up in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Agatha, pulling a three-story building and a residential home into the bowels of the earth."

Bowels is right.... in that area, with the storm sewers of a Guatemalan city draining into it, the LDS's down there will have to market "Dive the Brown Hole....Bring a lamp."

It resembles Dean's Blue Hole in some distant respects. Put up some more images of the Guatemala sink and a video along with an aerial oblique of Dean's and a sectional diagram. Sea level has come up quite a bit in the later case by appearances. I recall the sinkhole at Warm Mineral Srings, FL was supposed to have formed when sea level was several hundred feet lower too.
