The RSTC medical does have a guideline for phsyicians which accompanies the sign-off form, just in case the damily doctor has no diving related medical experience. In that respect, any doctor should be able to sign a person off as fit to dive (or not).

Another good reason to see a specialist is that a general practicioner may sign an asthmatic off as *unfit* to dive, when in fact somebody with more specialist experience may give that person an all-clear, as oppsed to the other way around.

Safe diving,

C.

Thanks everyone it is really great to get the feedback as well as know there are other people who have the same concerns!

thank you again I am seeing my Dr in the next week hopefully... we shall see how it goes other wise I shall see about DAN... Luckily so many people dive here hopefully she knows something more about it :)

I am a paramedic and one of the medications we use to treat asthma (mind you, only as one of our last resorts) is to give epinephrine IV or IM. I would think that the epinephrine auto injector normally used to treat anaphalaxis would work for the people with asthma in case they had a asthma attack under water. I am not sure how the auto injector could withstand the pressure of depth but I think it could work. Any thoughts?
