We had training yesterday, which ended up being a skills training and "team unity" day.
Well, before the BBQ, the Team Leader announces that he and the Lt. have decided to promote me to Asst. Team Leader. My jaw hit the floor, to say the least!
After a closed door session with the Lt. and Team Leader, I now know the method to their madness. Our newly elected Sheriff takes office next month. 1/3 of the upper management in our office is retiring, quitting or just jumping ship. I am sitting #1 on the Sergeants list and more than likely have my 3 stripes by the end of July. With all that said, the current Team Leader felt the Dept. may not like the idea of having two Sergeants on the team, so this position was created to more or less shelter me from being forced off the team by promoting.
I felt it was damn nice of the both of them to try to fix the problem before it was created. Now I don't have to worry about my future as far as the team after I promote. What a relief.
And yes, under our outgoing admin, multiple Sgt.s on a special team was a no-no. I saw a lot of qualified SWAT guys go cuz they promoted. It was a shame too, you lose too much experience that way, but that was their way.
Boy, I'm still stoked!!!! :luxhello:
