Hi All,

Well, I finally got my harness setup, my wing, and got my regulators setup so I decided to rent a tank and try putting it all together before a week of diving next week. I had a lot of difficulty in getting the STA, wing, and BP assembled together. I had difficulty getting the bolts through everything, any tips in doing this? Thanks.

Victor

What rig do you have?

They set up is simple but takes a little effort. The typical kit comes with two lock washers and two wing nuts. I would switch the wing nuts for thumb screws.

Typically you slid one lock washer on each of the bolts then sandwich everything together add the other lock washer and wing nut and tighten it down..

Set up ; STA - Wing - washer - plate- lock washer -wing nut= squeeze down and tighten. Elbow grease is the main ingredient.

If you find the first washer too thick, switch to a thinner one. Also the bolt may be short. If it is possible to switch the bolts. The do so. And if it is too long, you may have to cut it to avoid the bolt from poking you in the back and causing dammage to your suit...

If you are having difficulties alone. Get a buddy to help you sandwich it down. Remember to empty the wing.

i might look into the tobin's thumb screws. ya, i got the order down. got the order down, just took a lot of trys and lots of elbow grease. sounds like that's just the nature of the bp/w. i am going to buy a few extra nuts/bolts as backup so maybe i'll look into a little longer bolt too.
details of setup is:
HH plate w/ hog harness
Oxycheq Mach V
Dive Rite STA (just using the bolts and washers that came with STA)

Attach the STA to your cylinder first with bolts in place. Then simply slide the wing and plate over the bolts and install washers and wing nuts.
Simple.
Your BC is then put together until you decide to break it down again. You don't have to do this every time you switch tanks.

See my post above.

There should not be any elbow grease. Make sure the wing is deflated. It only takes seconds.

For me I needed to buy bolts 1/4" longer but I have a 9lb stainless plate that is .189" thick and a STA that is .189" thick. The standard plates are .125" or .115" I think so I needed about an eigth inch extra bolt right there plust the oms wing has a grommet and I installed a grommet on my harness and the grommets are +/- .125" so a bolt with 1/4 inch extra threads was necessary for me.

One thing not mentioned is that if you're going to dive exclusively with a single tank and using the STA, it might be better to substitute the wing nuts for stainless nylock nuts. The wing nuts tend to back off, then if you continue to ignore them, fall off.
