Why did 2 divers perish in underwater cave? - International Herald Tribune

It was said that this article was picked up by the Tallahassee Democrat Newspaper....I hope zealous legislators don't decide they need to take action.

Legislation to keep people safe from themselves is always well intentioned, but it never works as they always seem to keep coming up with better and better idiots who will still manage to get themselves killed.

To be honest, the irresponible actions of those two morons contiunes to make me mad. If you wanna have a mid life crisis, prove something to yourself or someone else, impress a bunch of equally moronic individuals or just have an old fashion dick measuring contest, do it somewhere other than in a cave.

As the article states it used to be untrained divers who died, while now it is most often trained cave divers (or in this case, partially trained divers who still knew better) who push too far too fast in with the wrong motivations and a lack of prudence that goes along with the lack of experience. It is actually those divers who bother me more, as training is not an effective fix and it has the potential to create the misperception that no one, however well trained, experienced or prudent should be cave diving.

Florida legislators have a lot more on their plate to worry about than an article about a cave diving "accident". The bad news is this area is where landowner relations is trying to be fostered to open up more sites, plus very sensitive to accidents.

You are correct...they have "more on their plate" that they SHOULD be worrying about. Unfortunately, as a small business owner in this state I get worthless legislation imposed on me each year that ends up costing me more time and money. Our state loves to impose fees and lic. on businesses and people. If they can find a way to regulate diving under the guise of safety regulation...believe me they will do it.

As we all know, accidents like this hurt the cave community on many, many levels.
