Ok, I guess it only HAS to be a 200 yard/meter swim for PADI OW, I just looked it up in the manual. Mine ended up being longer, because I did 20 laps, it should have been 10. It could have been a mistake because my instructor yelled to someone inside how many laps to complete for certification, and I don't recall him actually saying what certification.

Still, I wouldn't have been able to complete 200 yards in a real swim.

If I can do a 200 yd swim, anybody can. I am probably the worst swimmer known to mankind and I made it. Just lay back and kick with your feet. It's not timed so just go at at comfortable pace. I may have been a little embaressed with the rest of the class done and I was only at 150yds but thats all forgotten an hour later when you are treading water for ten minutes. Just do a dead mans float and that is easy.

Don't psych yourself out, you can do it!

must be a very small pool, surely? 200 metres is 8 lengths of both my local pools :)

Yes, it was a very small pool, far smaller than i had thought it would be.

1 yard is equal to .914 meters. Anyways.

Just relax and take your time doing the 200 meter swim for your OW, it's not timed, which is a good thing.

My 400 meter timed swim for my DM course was something to worry about, but I pulled it off without a hitch. Came in right under the 12 minute limit =)

No, for PADI it's 200 yards/meters. For the DM, which is timed, they provide different times for the Engish/metric distances.
