Okay, the lobster are still in shallow water. I dove in with a shorty 3mm today and spent a tank in shallow water (15' max). No problem, no chill. Probably saw 200 lobs. Was only able to find a few keepers though. I wonder if the bigger bugs are in deeper water.
We fished the reef in 80' and the viz was superman. Beautiful day on the water!
Yeah a lot of new traps around my spots today. I wonder how the bully netters are doing. Let me know how you do.
outstanding day on the water off key largo, once again; sunshine, light winds, calm seas. elected to freedive just beyond hawks channel, abeam the elbow(about 2 miles NE of north/north dry rocks and horseshoe), on patch reefs in 6-15FT. spineys were huge and plentifull(didn't even have to gauge them they were so big!!) observed very few shorts. limited in about 30 minutes with 2 bugs over 3.5 LBS! biggest lobsters iv'e caught in recent memory. very few traps on this large patch. checked a few nearshore sites(6-10FT) (near marker 32A; that's as detailed as I get on a message board!!!))on the way in and I could see antennas everywhere from the boat(appeared to be a lot of shorts), water was clear and smooth!!

Sweet. Sounds like I need to check some more spots. Thanks for the report. All of those shorts will be perfect for some March diving!
I hear spineys are fished out in BNP, way too much fishing pressure. go south from ceaser's creek and beyond angelfish creek. I hear bugging is good inshore south of the ocean reef club(near the old carysfort marina site),,,,,,,,,,,,,

Most all of our spots are south of broad creek anyways. The one I chose to dive on (usually most productive) had shorts. If we keep all of this chatter up, Manny is gonna find our spots. Lol.
i really thought that the water was gonna be too cold. Had I known it wasn't too cold I would have made a free dive day out it instead of a fishing day. Been doing a lot of fishing of late.
Well I think I am going to brave the cooler temps on Sunday and hit some of my lob spots. My question is, are they still hanging out in shallower waters? If they are still in shallow water around Pennecamp or Molasses, then they should still be at my spots too. I don't normally lobster in the winter but since I am recently certified I am anxious to get in the water.
