I've been wondering if rashguards are worth having, do they bunch up under your wetsuit? Seems to me they would be more of a hinderence than a help. Any thoughts?

I wear a 2mm under my backplate/hog setup to keep from getting rubbed. Also helps with warmth. In winter time I wear it under my 2mm shorty.

Actually I never wear one under the wetsuit. Only wear one when really, really warm water diving just under the bcd.

I love having a rash guard. I wear it in the summer with a swimsuit. I have not worn it with a wetsuit.

They defeat the purpose of a wetsuit if it's warmth you're after. As for help in donning a wetsuit it's a gear solution to a skills/fit problem.

As sun protection in warm water they have a place.

I think rash guards are really useful because they're good for few things:

1. Makes it easier to get in and out of some wetsuits
2. Very handy in sunny places when you want to sit on the sundeck or go for a snorkel in the blazing sun
3. Can preserve your modesty where that's required - I know a lot of women have accidentally spilled out of their bikinis while getting out of wetsuits.

No bunching at all if it fits well. Not a hindrance. And it helps when I'm diving colder water than I expected: last trip, water temp 70, my older 5-mil proving not enough to keep me from getting chilled, the rash guard helped a bit.

Not a hindrance by any means.

Definitely worth having.

I've never had a problem with my rashguard making my wetsuit colder, and I get cold easily. Not sure what FireInMyBones is talking about when he says it defeats the purpose.
