I've got the short stubby protectors on my hoses. I figure that the most likely point of failure of the hoses will be at the fittings, therefore, anything I can do to provide extra support in that area will be beneficial.

I use the black stubbies on all of my hoses. I can't see how having them would be a bad thing:confused:

Do the Scubapro hose protectors fit _over_ the small protectors already on hoses, say from Apeks?

If I have the short protectors from the manufacturer are the Scubapros any better? Can I install them myself without taking apart the hose?

To answer your questions in order.

:D

Anyone know a brand of stubby hose protector that will fit over an exiting hose fitting? I recently bought a set of hoses and they came without protectors.

some disassembly is required to put hose protectors on already mounted hoses... lots of pulling too, so make sure you have the "tool" or let the shop do it that sold you the protectors.

As when I bought my regs they came with a stiff plastic stubbie protector that my shop said was to protect the fitting where people tend to grab from.. I then decided to color code my regs hoses I placed a Orange wrap for my Octo hose and a Red wrap for my Regulator and a Blue wrap for my Computer( I didn't want Grey for Gauges, and I like Blue). The shop was able to intall the wraps and new plastic protectors in about 10 minutes. They have a cool little tool that places the stiff plastic on in seconds.

I don't like the hose protectors that Apeks has. I take them off and replace them with the beefier Scuba Pro's. Shops have a little tool for making this easier. We made our own tool. I use baby shampoo to make them slide on easier.

Good luck.

Mike
