The mania of prohibiting gloves seems to be spreading.
I went out on a dive to a popular site that became a marine park since I last dived it and of course no knives and no gloves allowed.
So I swapped the gloves I was going to use for my set that have the the fingers cut off, but the park monitor still wouldn't allow them!
Now although these are technically tropical waters, being southern hemisphere we're in Winter and water temp is 19-20C. So after 2 x 1hour+ dives I was starting to feel chilly and I'm absolutely sure that most of the blame was due to the exposed hands.
I was using my 7mm semi dry and I've done 2 x 1 1/2 hour dives without feeling cold at 19C when wearing gloves.

Anyway I felt that gloves without fingers should be allowed so when I got back I fired off a mail about the subject to one of the organizations involved in the park administration. I didn't expect any reaction but I was pleased to see a reply just arrived that they thought it was a good idea and they will take it for official consideration.

So who knows, maybe I'll manage to get the rules changed, at least at this site?

See if you can get a doctor's permission. Perhaps claiming that you have some strange disease that causes your fingers to fall off when exposed to salt water? Maybe that will fly with the park rangers?

Why ban gloves?

It's supposed to discourage people from touching things or animals.
One of the licensed boats was suspended for a month because one of the divers from it hitched a ride with a passing turtle...
They have monitors in the water too.

Only to golfers and cyclists.

Since the glove ban in many marine parks is to keep you from touching, I'd assume a fingerless glove wouldn't count. Consider it an extension of the arms of your westuit.

That said, you never know what some functionary with a badge might say.

How about, "Get your $%#&ing hands off the reef"?

I understand not wanting people to touch things, but I get cold too. Maybe we could be allowed to have our gloves if we promise to hold a camera? :D I can also promise I wont have any good pictures -- last time I had really swell photos of myself because the camera was backwards the entire dive.:dork2:

Id go with the above. Its what i do in the (very few) places that ban gloves. Stuck them in wing pocket and put them on/off underwater.

I HATE diving without gloves. Stings and so on.
