I have been reading posts about Aquaworld based in Cancun (making trips to Cozumel) but I understand that “Aquaworld – Cozumel” is another separate dive op in Cozumel, specific to Cozumel. The hotel I will be staying at (on Cozumel), El Cid La Ceiba, uses them and I wonder what to expect (cattle boats or divers being left behind like Aquaworld - Cancun).

Does anyone know about Aquaworld – Cozumel?

Thanks.

Not sure but why would someone want to use the same name as a company with such a reputation? There are tons of reputable places in Cozumel. Dozens of choices. Why take a chance that this is the same company? I know they are convenient because they are at the hotel you are but I would say go with someone else unless you find out otherwise. If the hotel has a problem with that, there are other hotels too!

There are AquaWorld shops in both Can & Coz, owned by the same corporation. Both offer tightly scheduled, highly regimented, large group/mixed experience-style least common denominator scuba.

As "teamheatwave" has indicated, there are many ops to choose from on Coz, more than 75, in fact, and all of them will pick you up at the El Cid La Ceiba dock.

Go with one of the better ones.

Have fun.

The only thing I know about Aquaworld Cozumel is that their boats are huge. To each his own, but I prefer small boat - small group. As DV said, most dive shops pick up at La Ceiba, so don't be forced into a choice by your location.

Huge does not adequately describe the Aquaworld Ships. :) You outta see the size of the one they bring over from Cancun!!! It is as big as the Ferry's!!!!!

:D

Thanks for the responses.

My trip is being conducted through my LDS and unfortunately I don’t have a choice in the dive op. I’m not 100% sure we will be using Aquaworld but the LDS promotion material says “unlimited shore diving” and I know we are staying at El Cid so I assume we will be using the hotel dive op. I will check with the DM running the trip (very experienced in Coz) on who we are using.

I need to do my Master Diver required dives and would like to do most of those dives from shore and enjoy the boat diving without performing required dives like compass navigation, search and recovery etc. So “unlimited shore diving” is very appealing.

I prefer smaller boats, small groups as well. Since there will be around 16 of us (from my LDS) going on this trip, maybe we have a special arrangement.

Well Aquaworld can definately handle 16 divers......which may not be too bad since all 16 of you are going together. In that case, the only real down side is the slooooowness of the larger boats. They are much nicer.....with lots of shade and lots of room and heads on board, so if you can suffer through the rides, you should have a good time since you will be in the company of friends.

I've heard that the thing to do there is to check out under the cruise ship dock (the inshore section that doesn't have ships moored to it) at night. I've never done it, myself.
