I have an Aqua Lung Legend reg and noticed while I was on a dive vacation that it had developed cracks in the black rubbery purge button. A day later, these cracks broke off into pieces and my Legend emblem fell out. The dive shop assured me that it wouldn't affect performance but that I could get the little rubbery piece replaced when I got back to the States. I am always careful about giving the reg a good soaking in clean water after every dive and I never left it in the sun. Has anyone else had this problem?

Do you ever use it in heavily chlorinated water?

Yep and I have posted warnings of this weakness

Aqualung really dropped the ball on this design. They will replace it but have not tried to cure it.

Complain loud and often as it is well below the quality expected out of them. There are purge covers that will replace the cheap factory unit that will last a lifetime, Hell I'm half tempted to put an Atomic cover on one of the few we have at shop and send it to them.

Love the reg, hate the purge cover.

No, I haven't used it in clorinated water, only salt water. It was rinsed thoroughly after each use. I got the purge cover replaced for a few bucks, plus the cost of "labor" (you know how laborous this task is! ;-)) I am now looking at an atomic reg because the Legend just isn't working well for me, comfort-wise. I've been told that the reg I have is a great one, but I wouldn't know the difference as I've only dived on this and no other. Another problem I am having with it is that it doesn't sit squarely in my mouth, but rather pushes out my cheek on the opposite (left) side. The mouthpiece is cockeyed in my mouth and it becomes very uncomfortable after a short time of trying to keep it in my mouth by biting down intensely. I switched the hose positions and the problem was alleviated somewhat. But regardless the reputation that Aqua Lung may have for quality, one must find what works best for them, right? Thanks for the responses. If you have any other suggestions it would be appreciated.

The cockeyed issue may be hose length and routing, there are a few things you can try to easy that issue. Change hoses and lengths (the factory hose is very stiff and a bit long, try a swivel or an atomic swivel hose, switch to a long hose, or reposition the hose routing.

Change mouth pieces for one that is comfortable to your preferences.

I'm shocked you were charged for the cover, Is this a purchase from Internet or a local dealer?

It was purchased from my LDS. The same one who did the work. The charge for the cover was nominal, it was the labor cost that was the most expensive, and even then, it wasn't too bad. I saved the purge cover as a souviner though! I probably should send it in to Aqua Lung to see what they have to say. Thankfully, I managed to save the Legend LX metal emblem before it floated away and it was installed back with the new cover.

Should have been covered under warranty.

Why was this part not covered under warranty? Aqualung does have a limited lifetime warranty. How old was your reg?
