What is cactus juice? Can I purchase that before getting there?

It won't be so important @ ILR.....have been there many times, our son was DM & Instr. there a few years back / also our daughter worked there for a short period of time.......Tell Donna & Andy Joe from La.(AKA Matt & Renee's Dad) says hello.....If this is your 1st time there, PM me & I can tell you more....It's one of the better places to stay, the diving is literally just a minute or 2 ride away & you'll love the Lagoon, in fact right out of it is usually the home a several seahorses.....Also, be sure & get Cara a Cara in (the shark dive on the south side)....hopefully they're still doing Mary's place, well worth it.......good luck & get back with me if you need any other info......Almost forgot, 'tell' Mingo I said hi, & if he doesn't straighten up, I'll have to dunk him in one of the rinse tanks on the dock...lol.......

I am planning a bit of a last minute solo trip to Roatan for April. This will be my first time there. Everyone here seems to say good things about Coconut Tree Divers so I am contacting them. How are their cabins. Do they hade a safe? AC? View?
If their accommodations do not work out I will try Posada Arco Iris.
My last few trips have been to Cozumel and Bonaire and from what I have read this will be a different experience.
Any comments or recommendations would be appreciated.

Coconut Tree has really come a long way in the last few years it seems......If you have any problems, check out Sueno del Mar(Ray Lopes owner) or Seabreeze/Cannibal Cafe(owner Kevin)...both are on West End, Sueno a little farther South....Great little eateries on West End, among them The Argentenian Restuarant( a must), Cannibal Cafe, Eagle Ray's, & last but not least Pinochio's....Also, right past Belvedere's on the south side of Half Moon Bay, a local lady has a great little mom&pop restuarant(can't remember it's name but you can't miss it- I'll have to ask my daughter if you want it's name- I always forget it)...Enjoy, have had a house there since '94 @ Sandy Bay just East of Anthony's Key Resort.....There are ONLY 2 dives on the south side worth doing, Mary's Place(of course) & Cara a Cara(the shark dive by 2 Italians----A VERY MUST).....good luck, we went for the 1st time in '94 & enjoyed it so much, we bought a place there......House 1B @ sundancerroatan.com, just 60 yards from the water, our home away from home.....

Thanks Diver 85 - The email contact I have had with Coconut Tree has been helpful and professional so I will be using them as a dive op. I will be trying most of your restaurants you mentioned and am looking forward to them.
I will tell my wife about you going in '94 and liking it so much you bought a house. I am going solo this trip but I am hoping that I like it so much that I can talk my wife into going.

I just got back yesterday from a week in Roatan staying at the coconut tree cabins and diving with them. Yes to AC, no to the safe, great view of the road if you stand on tippy-toe an look over the wall.

Yep, it's definitely different than Cozumel; the west end is much more laid back and a little on the funky side. I really enjoyed it...diving with coconut tree is terrific, and the cabins are decent basic accomodations right in the west end about 100 feet from the dive shop, even closer depending on the cabin you're in. If you want an ocean view, there are some really nice houses you could rent just outside the west end, and I bet the folks at the dive shop can direct you. Expect to pay quite a bit more than the $40/night you pay for the cabin!

Coconut tree is a good dive shop for a solo trip as there are lots of friendly faces around; when I left there were several divemaster trainees just starting their course.

get10wet,
I will be there April 14 -21. Cocolobo only has nine accommodations so I am sure we will run into each other there and on the Coconut Tree boat as well. I will be doing the morning two tanks dives and at least one of the afternoon dives.
Here is an interesting website showing the construction of Cocolobo, if you have not seen it.

Very cool. I had no idea they were using Blogger to document their progress. Sounds like we'll be staying at Cocolobo the same week. Only 26 days now!
