Newbie poster here!

The LDS has what appears to be a pretty good deal on an Apex regulator and I need some advice from the all knowing board :06:

They have an TX 100 / TX 40 Octo combo on sale for $400. This seems like a pretty good deal, but I know the TX series are ~25% larger than the ATX series. I saw them and they don't seem super big, but I'm wondering if size really does make a difference :eyebrow:

If it helps, I'm a brand new diver with no real experience. I plan to dive mostly warm FL gulf waters and springs.

Specifically, I'm looking for opinions on whether the differences in size between the TX and ATX reulators makes a big difference in use (jaw fatigue, bubbles, etc.). Also, if you think this sounds like a good deal.

I have both, and I don't really have a preference. Both are comfortable enough with the comfobite mouthpiece, and both sit on my chin nice. It might be 25% smaller, but I don't think it's 25% lighter...

Actually, I think it's time to get out the postal scale and do a test. :)

OK -
TX series 2nd stage = 250g
ATX series 2nd stage = 210g

Thanks for the info! I'm pretty sure my neck muscles could hold up an extra 40 grams in the air and in the water I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem. Also, being a new diver, I won't be going the high speeds where hydrodymanic drag due to size differences would play a big part.

Hi John,
I'm in New Port Richey looking to buy an Apex reg setup. What dive shop did you find that at? For that price and a WARRANTY I might buy 2 of them.
Thanks for your help,
Doug

Aqua Lung has a rebate on certain model until July 31. At least one Apeks model is included. The LDS may be listing the price after the rebate to get people to buy. IIRC the rebate is an "instant" rebate, fill out a form and give it to the LDS, they submit it to the maker, you don't have to send it in.

hi giles45shop,
you've got to pay 400 $ for it and think it is a good deal?
when do you need such a regulator? if you would buy it in europe you've got to pay about 250€ for it, that's a good deal, try to import it.

I would buy local. it may be a little extra but you maintain your warranty (i know there will be a debate but Apeks parts warranty is only good where you bought it) and if you ever have any problems they will be alot closer. It is a great deal and you would like the reg alot. The TX series is not bad at all. I have also used both and you don't notice a heck of a difference....

I guess I'll start the debate.

What?

Do you mean to say that if I move, I have to mail the reg to the original place of purchase every time I want it serviced? And if the shop goes out of business after the owner goes on a two week bender in Vegas (hypothetical situation), I lose my warranty? Surely that can't be true.
